TL/DR: Marketing BS is moving premium behind a paywall on October 19th. You can subscribe here at 50% off before October 16th.
I began Marketing BS in May 2019 with my thesis post that “Everything is a Marketing Problem”. Since then I have shared marketing essay every week about something recently misinterpreted by the mainstream media. More recently I have added a weekly “briefing” covering what a Third Way CMO needs to know from the previous week and a two-part podcast with a growth-oriented Chief Marketer about how they managed their career and grew a business.
I am now spending the majority of my week on this project, as well as paying the direct costs for editing of the essay and podcasts (the briefing goes to you “raw”). On October 19th I will be moving Marketing BS behind a paywall. Paying subscribers will receive:
MONDAY: Marketing BS weekly essay
TUESDAY: Marketing BS weekly briefing
WEDNESDAY: Podcast Interview Part 1: CMOs Career
THURSDAY: Podcast Interview Part 2: Growing a business
I have a few other special opportunities coming as well (including the ability to join, listen and ask questions live while podcasts are being recorded, subscriber-only forums and virtual meet-ups and the ability to “gift” premium memberships).
Non-paying subscribers will continue to receive a weekly email which will move to FRIDAY mornings. The “free email” will include at least one full piece of content from the previous four days (I do not believe “samples” are a good experience for anyone). Free subscribers get something valuable every week (an essay OR a briefing OR a podcast interview). Paying subscribers get MORE and also get it EARLIER. If you want to stay on the free list you do not need to do anything.
The price for Marketing BS+ will be $150/year, but I am offering it at 50% off for current subscribers until October 16th. Thank you for being part of my beta test.
While individual subscriptions are available, I believe the best value for Marketing is when an entire organization reads the material together to create cultural change. To that end I am offering “Organization Subscriptions”. For $700/year ($500/year until October 16th) you get unlimited “within organization” subscriptions. Offering this is a little tricky with Substack’s current functionality but I worked with the team to come up with the following:
Choose “Group Subscription”
Subscribe FIVE member of your organization with the same company email domain name
Send me an email with an unlimited number of additional email addresses with the same domain name
I am open to discounting the “organization subscriptions” for schools and non-profits. Please contact me if the price is beyond your organizations ability to pay.
All Marketing BS+ content will free until October 19th. I will include a reminder for the change and the discount regularly between now and then.
All of the historical Marketing BS essays will continue to be available. Some of the more important essays you may have missed include,
The first take on the “Marketing to Employees” thesis, Jul 2, 2019 (which took on mainstream interest this past week with the Coinbase CEO letter)
The first take on the importance of “Real Fidelity”, Jan 28, 2020 (which took on mainstream interest with the advent of a global pandemic forcing much of the world to work remotely)
The link between customer heterogeneity and the spread of COVID-19, Apr 14, 2020
Loyalty Programs, Sep 10, 2019
Discounting, Jul 16, 2019
Email Marketing, Jul 9, 2019
Conversion Rate Optimization, Sep 21, 2020
And the most popular content from the last year and a half:
The Marketing BS Career Guide to $1MM annual income, Jun 21, 2020
Why the CMO role is NOT obsolete, Aug 20, 2019
Next week’s essay (free for all) will be about Programatic Advertising. Some of the upcoming podcasts include:
CMO, Remitly
CMO, Egencia (an Expedia company)
Former CMO, Pro.com
Former CMO, Levain Bakery
Founder, UrbanSpoon/FreshChalk
President, Bask Bank (only bank to offer American Airline Reward points instead of interest)
CEO, Genuine Hospitality Group (Parent company of Michael’s Genuine, the best restaurant in the south east)
I am excited to continue this journey with all of you and help shape the future of Third Way marketing.
Keep it simple,
Edward
